Farm Investors

In comparison to the farmers and agriculture workers programs, farm investor programs are aimed at those individuals that can show previous farm ownership experience along with available funds for investment in a farming business in Canada.

Another key difference is that there are only 3 provinces in Canada that accommodate farm investor immigration, whereas the farmers and agriculture workers program is available to any province in Canada. Available programs are as follows:

  1. Self-Employed Farmer Stream in Alberta asks to invest a minimum of CAD $500,000 in a primary production farming business in the province and prepare a comprehensive business plan targeting Alberta’s agri-food industries in high demand.

  2. Farm Owner and Operator in Saskatchewan asks the applicant to:
    • have a personal net worth of at least CAD $500,000 accumulated legally and make a minimum investment of CAD $150,000 toward a proposed commercial farming opportunity.
    • show a minimum of 3 years of applicable experience in farm ownership and/or management along with practical farming experience.
    • score a minimum of 55 points under Saskatchewan’s eligibility point grid.

  3. Young Farm Owner and Operator in Saskatchewan asks the applicant to:
    • be under 40 years of age.
    • have a personal net worth of at least CAD $300,000 accumulated legally and make a minimum investment of CAD $10,000 toward a proposed commercial farming opportunity.
    • show a minimum of 3 years of applicable experience in farm ownership and/or management along with practical farming experience.

  4. Farm Investor Pathway in Manitoba asks the applicant to:
